Government Gives Striking Teachers A Raise

Government has conceded to demands by striking educators by awarding them 20% salary increase, along with non monetary incentives.

According to a government statement released late today, President Emerson Mnangagwa ‘directed that specific meaures’ be implemented in light of teachers’ demand.

As a result, teachers have been awarded monetary benefits that include a 20% salary increase, USD$100 Covid allowance top-up an scalling of salaries according to seniority.

The educators were also awarded with non monetary incentives such as payment of fees for for the teacher’s three biological children, pool transport, housing and duty free import of vehicles.

In the past two days, thousands of pupils were being turned back from school as they found no teachers in the classrooms as the embarked on the industrial a pressing for a raise.

Headmasters had joined too citing the same reason of ‘incapacitation’.

The salary awards are however far less to what the teacher’s union had been pushing for, a take home of not less than USD$540 for the lowest paid.
